Level IIA Bulletproof Vest

The current lowest Level of protection among all categories of a bulletproof vest is the Level IIA body armor. The lightest and most adaptable armor currently on the market is often soft armor that may be readily hidden by clothing.

The level IIA type of bulletproof vest can protect you against a .99mm Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) at 1165 feet per second and a .40 Smith & Wesson (S&W) FMJ at 1065 feet per second.

Level II Bulletproof Vest

The Level II bulletproof vests can withstand a wider variety of bullets than Level IIA vests and give better protection from blunt impact than IIA vests while being relatively light, flexible, and undetectable beneath clothing.

You can be protected by a level II bulletproof vest against any pistol bullets, up to .357 magnum jacketed soft point rounds (JSP).

Level IIIA Bulletproof Vest

The Level IIIA bulletproof vest is currently the most common protection level of vest that you will see in the market for soft body armor. It is good all-around for concealable and lightweight protection. It is a bit heavier than level IIA and level II vests but still largely concealable.

It can protect you against 9mm rounds traveling at a speed of up to 1400 feet per second and .44 magnum rounds.

Level III Bulletproof Vest

A level III bulletproof vest is the first level of body armor to protect from rifle bullets. This bulletproof vest is not concealable since it often comprises rigid plates rather than soft plates.

In addition to being heavier than soft armor, hard armor offers higher protection. The level III vest handles up to six shots from 7.62×51 NATO rounds traveling up to 2780 feet per second.

Level IV Bulletproof Vest

The level IV bulletproof vest is now the highest level that can give you a top level of protection because it consists of rigid plates as opposed to level IIIA plates and below. It is not always better than Level III armor since it only stops one bullet as opposed to Level III armor’s six.

The level IV bulletproof vest is designed to handle one hit from a 7.62MM armor-piercing rifle (APR) bullet with a velocity of 2880 feet per second.
